Matias Jalmari

Matias Jalmari’s work lives in mood and memory: warm, storylike images that feel rooted in a particular moment. Influenced by the film and visual culture of the 90s and early 2000s, he pursues portraits and editorials with a human, cinematic quality, compositions that the edit then deepens with color, texture, and emotional weight.

Nikon has been part of Matias’s visual journey since his first compact Nikon in 2011, a camera he still uses for lookbooks and quick reference work. Today his creative toolkit centers on the Nikon Z8, a body he credits with expanding his range and confidence on set. He pairs the Z8 with fast NIKKOR Z primes — the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 for intimate environmental frames and the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 for taut, tactile portraits, a combination that supports both clean studio work and cinematic editorial narratives. The Z8’s advanced video features let him move seamlessly between stills and motion, while Nikon Imaging Cloud and its Recipes streamline his post workflow, helping preserve the mood he crafts in camera. Joining the Nikon Creator program felt like a natural continuation of a relationship that began long before his professional career took shape.
